Who am I?

While being Métis and having come out as bisexual at the age of 16 and transgender at the end of 2019, I have a passion for inclusivity no matter the background. With that said, it is not the sole basis of my work or my writing.

Over the past 5 years I have gained experience in editing literature both through an academic and professional setting. As an editor my goal is to assist authors developing their own voice and style along with enhancing their writing.

Originally pursuing a career in social sciences, mainly psychology, I changed career paths when I happened upon a presentation for the Creative Writing & Publishing program at Sheridan College back in 2016. Initially I had no interest in writing and knew nothing about editing but simply felt drawn to the program. After my first semester, I quickly learned I had a passion for editing and have been growing as an editor ever since and currently work as the Editor in Chief for the chapbook press Whispering Wick.

As an author I won the 2019 Talk The Walk writing contest and had by poem A Swamp Like Shrek’s featured in Alchemy under the name Vanessa Boulard-Patterson.
